Getting to Sambaa K’e

If planned properly getting to Sambaa K’e is very straightforward. Located in the Deh Cho region of the Northwest Territories, Sambaa K’e can be accessed by airplane all year round or by seasonal winter road.

  • Chartered flight offered by several regional airlines flying from Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, NWT and other areas.
  • Driving in the winter on the 126km winter road from Kilometer 321.6 of NWT Highway 1, from approximately December 20th to March 20th annually.

Flying to Sambaa K’e

Flying to Sambaa K’e is easy and accessible from many originating destinations. Fort Simpson-based Goose Flying Service, Simpson Air, and South Nahanni Airways provide charter service to Sambaa K’e. Charters are also available from several other locations including Yellowknife; Fort Nelson, BC; and Watson Lake, Yukon. Guests are also welcome to arrive by private planes to Sambaa K’e.

Sambaa K’e Airport

The airport code is EU9 and there is a terminal building available year-round. The runway designation is 04/22 and the gravel runway is 3500’ x 98’. There is cell service in the community. Sambaa K’e Development Corporation (SKDC) maintains the runway Monday to Friday and there is medium intensity lighting.

There are no fuel sales at the airport and the nearest fuel is at Fort Simpson.

Driving to Sambaa K’e – Winter Road

Sambaa K’e Development Corporation installs and maintains a weather-dependent winter road, usually operating from about December 20th to March 20th annually. Please contact SKDC for details if you are planning a winter road trip.

Access to the 126 km Winter Road from Km 321.3 on Highway 1, 2 km east of Sambaa Deh Falls Territorial Park (km 325).
